I am a catch-all senior reporter for The Star. Human interest stories, court cases, education and breaking news - I don't think I ever know what I'm going to be working when I arrive for my 7am-3pm shift. I have worked in local journalism for seven years, four of them spent with the Northampton Chronicle & Echo before moving to Sheffield in 2021 - in fact, this June I will have spent three years in the city now. I still consider myself a newcomer but I still love exploring the city and showing it off to friends and family. My dad was in the armed forces so I spent loads of my time growing up moving from place to place, so I don't really come from anywhere - Stafford, I guess? But I feel ready to put some roots down in Sheffield. I enjoy nothing more than taking detours with close friends and making up plans as they happen - big walks for no reason, spontaneous trips to town, tagging along for errands, being a pair of hands. I like to think my job in the mornings is to get up to speed on the day's agenda and be prepared to "jump on it" if things kick off. When that isn't the priority, I like stories that need a delicate touch - tributes, inquests, court cases, the injustices of SEND provision, and putting words to how someone feels - are my forte. I want to be the sort of reporter people know they can reach out to when they are done wrong who will handle their problem with sensitivity.
