Bakewell, Castleton and Hathersage are classic spots to visit, but there are many wonderful lesser-known places that are also well worth seeing – and they are not too far away from Sheffield.
Why not head out to one of these lovely destinations for a day trip this summer?
5. Monyash
Monyash can be found at the head of Lathkill Dale surrounded by beautiful scenery. A village green, with what is left of an old market cross, forms its centre. Photo: Anne Shelley
6. Fenny Bentley
Fenny Bentley is in the southern part of the Peak Park, two miles north of Ashbourne. The church of St Edmund has an unusual monument to Thomas and Agnes Beresford who, together with their 21 children, are shown covered in a shroud. There are pubs, too - The Coach and Horses and the Bentley Brook Inn. Photo: Jason Chadwick
7. Tideswell
Tideswell near Buxton is one of the Peak District's bigger villages. It is home to the church of St John the Baptist, known as the 'Cathedral of the Peak' - this was built entirely in the 14th century. Photo: Jason Chadwick
