Sheffield Wednesday’s promotion fate remains out of their own hands after late goals from Ipswich Town and Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night saw the top two retain the automatic promotion spots.
The Owls are one point behind Ipswich having played a game more, and two points behind league leading Argyle who also have a game in hand.
Darren Moore’s side won 2-1 at Bristol Rovers and looked on course for a return to the automatic promotion places as Ipswich fell behind to Port Vale before Nathan Broadhead scored a penalty six minutes from time.
Plymouth scored a 96th winner to win 2-1 at Shrewsbury in a blow to the Owls’ hopes of avoiding the play-offs. Barnsley’s automatic promotion hopes appear all but over after they were held at Lincoln City.
