Brewster, who earlier this season became the most expensive player in United’s history after completing a £23.5m move from Liverpool, will enter tomorrow’s game against his former club still without a goal since leaving Anfield.
Described as a “natural goalscorer” by the visitors’ manager Jurgen Klopp ahead of October’s meeting between the two sides, Brewster has nevertheless yet to find the back of the net for Chris Wilder’s side.

Hide AdAcknowledging the youngster’s transfer fee and pedigree - he spent time in Chelsea’s youth system before being lured to the North-West - immediately presented him with hurdles to overcome, McGoldrick nevertheless remains convinced United made a shrewd investment.
“Rhian is a great kid,” McGoldrick said, “A really nice humble kid, a cheekie London chappie and a good young player. You see the price tag that he came with, that’s not his fault. People thought he would score 100 goals in a season. But he wasn’t going to do that.
“I watch him in training and, trust me, there’s not a better finisher I’ve seen at 20 years of age.”
United’s struggles in the Premier League this season - they enter the meeting with Liverpool at the bottom of the table after winning just three times in the competition this term - have also hampered Brewster’s development in South Yorkshire. Speaking last month, Wilder acknowledged the situation they find themselves in would prove difficult for even the most experienced of professionals, let alone one at the beginning of their career.

Hide AdMcGoldrick, United’s leading marksman since September’s return to action, also insisted restrictions imposed because of the Covid-19 pandemic must also be factored into the equation when judging Brewster’s progress.
“He just needs one, that’s going to give him a massive boost,” McGoldrick said. “Once he has a good pre-season, it will help.
“Not everyone is in the same changing room or even on the same bus at the moment. So you miss out on certain things. I think he will get a kick out of playing in front of fans.”
