Former Sheffield United defender Harry Maguire sent a classy message to the Blades and their fans after the thrilling 3-3 draw with his Manchester United side yesterday.

Maguire, who came through the ranks at United and made over 100 first-team appearances in defence, was applauded warmly before kick-off as he made his first return to Bramall Lane since his £80m move to Old Trafford in the summer.

He was powerless to prevent the Blades going 2-0 ahead, through John Fleck and Lys Mousset, before three goals in seven minutes put the Red Devils 3-2 ahead.

But Oli McBurnie climbed off the bench to score a late winner, earning United a share of the spoils and sending Bramall Lane wild.

Maguire was late out of the Lane on Sunday evening as he was randomly selected for a drugs test.

But he later posted a classy message on Twitter, aimed at the Blades and their fans.

It read: “Good luck @SheffieldUnited for the rest of the season. Thanks for the reception #SUFC.”
