ELSECAR have overtaken Hallam at the top of the South Yorkshire League's Premier Division and have a two-point lead with two games left – and the teams meeting on the final weekend.

Elsecar’s win over bottom club Norton Oakes, brought about by skipper Lesroy Weekes’ 7-45, and some solid batting, was worth seven points.

Hallam won but gained only five for not dismissing Treeton who, replying to Hallam’s 197-7 (Humphrey Emery, 58, and Wayne Thies, 42no) closed on 191-7 Steve Foster, 60.

Whitley Hall saw off Barnsley for 175,replying with 178-3, Alex Fletcher 92, Andy Bethel 62no. They still have a slim title chance and entertain Hallam next Saturday.
