It covers the risk of snow and sleet this afternoon across a swathe of northern England, as well as the risk of ice with rain falling on frozen surfaces.

Hide AdIt will feel ‘bitterly cold’ with ‘ice and frost’ today, say the Met Office, with snow becoming lighter, patchy, and mainly focussed over the hills later, but with extensive hill fog. The maximum temperature will only rise as high as 3 °C.
More snow could be in store this weekend too, with an additional yellow weather warning in place on Saturday between 3am and 9pm, when the Met Office says a band of heavy snow may lead to further travel disruption, road closures and power cuts.
The Met Office says there is a continued risk of wintry, unsettled weather into next week as warm and cold air continue to battle it out above the UK and weather fronts try to make headway across the country.
