Vicious thug tried to punch pregnant partner in stomach
Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, February 24, how Ricky Wood, 29, of Leander Court, Staveley, threw a plate and a microwave at a wall before pushing his partner and trying to punch her in the stomach while threatening to kill her and himself.
Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “Over a weekend, Wood had smoked the Black Mamba drug and he flipped out and said he was going to harm his partner and their baby and he cut his arm to punish himself.

Mr Allsop told how Wood refused to let his girlfriend leave his flat and threw a dinner plate and her bag at a wall before pushing her backwards.
He began pushing and banging things around, according to Mrs Allsop, and was asking where the knives were and as his partner tried to leave she was grabbed and pushed and she stumbled and hit her head against a wall.
Mrs Allsop added: “He picked up her newly bought microwave and threw it at a wall and went back into the kitchen and said he was going to kill himself.

“He began ringing his mother and he pushed his partner against a sofa and told her not to test him or he would kill them both.”
Police who responded to reports of a damaged glass door at the council property managed to get into the home, according to Mrs Allsop, but struggled to restrain Wood.
Mrs Allsop added: “Wood was placed in a police car but he was ripping up paperwork so it was decided to place him in a caged van.”

The defendant pleaded guilty to assaulting his partner, assaulting a police officer and to damaging a door after the incident on February 22.
Mrs Allsop added that Wood’s partner stated that he has got “a heart of gold” and he treats her well but he has got a drug problem.
Defence solicitor David Gittins said: “Mr Wood has mental health issues and he has been self-prescribing diazepam and he takes it because it makes him feel relaxed.

“He needs help. There is very much a Jekyll and Hyde scenario here. He says he wants sectioning.”
District Judge Andrew Davison sentenced Wood to 24 weeks of custody and ordered him to pay £200 compensation.
Wood was also given an indefinite restraining order not to contact his partner.
Mr Davison told Wood: “Your behaviour is an absolute disgrace - especially towards your unborn child.”
