Several major roads through Sheffield city centre are closed off by police and traffic is being diverted this morning.

Several prominent streets have been blocked off reportedly over concerns for a man on a construction site roof.

Pinstone Street, at the top of The Moor, as well as nearby Cambridge Street and Charles Street, are cordoned off by police, with cars being stopped on Furnival Gate.

A construction worker told The Star a man is reportedly on the roof of a building inside the cordon, with several dozen builders working in the area unsure if they will be ‘downing tools’ for the day over the incident.

The cordoned-off area is one of the main pedestrian crossings for walking through the city centre.

South Yorkshire Police has been contacted for a comment.

It comes just days after a large area of the city centre was closed for around 36 hours on Monday night after a man climbed a crane and stayed there until Wednesday.
