Sheffield council houses set for Â£5.4 million external makeover plan

Up to 3,500 council homes in Sheffield are set to receive an external makeover, with 5,000 new windows and 2,000 new doors being installed across the city.

The £5.4 million refurbishment programme is to be provided by Wates Living Space Maintenance, on behalf of Sheffield Council.

The plans also include a commitment to offer employment and training opportunities for Sheffield people, with a city-based supply chain of suppliers and subcontractors.

Coun Jayne Dunn, cabinet member for housing, said: “We’re investing in our council homes to make sure they are safe, secure and warm.

“We’re also making them more energy efficient to save people money – as well as being better for the environment.

“This work will be a boost for our homes and for the area, as it will create jobs and apprenticeship opportunities.

“I look forward to seeing the results which are part of our £300million investment plans into council homes.”
