Beloved Sheffield grandmother and fish and chip shop owner died in Rivelin car fire

Assistant coroner Katie Dickinson heard that police were called to Lodge Lane in Rivelin at 2.30pm on September 18 last year following reports of a car that was on fire.
Rosemary Broomhead who was 63 and lived on Hillcote Close, was pronounced dead at the scene after being found inside the car.

Hide AdA police investigation found the death was unsuspicious and nobody else was involved. An investigation by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue concluded that the fire in the car had been started deliberately.
Ms Dickinson heard that Mrs Broomhead had been suffering with depression and suicidal thoughts, as well as having difficulty sleeping. She had been prescribed medication to help her with her condition.
Mrs Broomhead co-owned the popular Broomhead’s Fish and Chips in Crookes, which was set up by the family more than 60 years ago.
Speaking at the inquest John Broomhead, her husband of 42 years, spoke of how they had a long and happy marriage, and enjoyed going on holiday to Newquay and Majorca together.

Hide AdMrs Broomhead was also a much-loved mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children Penny and Oliver, their partners Paul and Emma, and three grandchildren: Lola, James and Ronnie.
