A young walker was airlifted to Sheffield Children’s Hospital after falling from a well-known Peak District beauty spot.

The youngster was out at Mother Cap, above Surprise View, near Hathersage and Grindleford, when they took what Edale Mountain Rescue Team described as a ‘sizeable fall’.

The mountain rescue team said that due to the ‘serious injuries’ reported, an air ambulance was also dispatched to the scene last Friday, July 7, at around 12.30pm.

It added: “One of our team doctors along with several team members, an EMAS paramedic and crew from the air ambulance service, arrived on scene within minutes of each other and were jointly able to treat the young walker for their injuries before being stretchered to the waiting helicopter for onward travel to Sheffield Children's Hospital."
