Police officers were pelted with eggs as they responded to reports of a troublesome group of youths at a Sheffield shopping centre.

Posting on Twitter, the South West Sheffield Neighbourhood policing team said: “On Monday, we were called to reports of a large group of youths causing anti-social behaviour at St James Retail Park at Meadowhead. On attendance, the young people threw eggs at our officers. The same group had caused a number of problems in the local area throughout the evening.”

The force revealed in the tweets that one member of the group had been detained on public order offences before being returned to their parents. Officers identified 12 other people found to have been part of the group and visited them as well.

Police said: “We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour in our communities, and would encourage anyone with concerns as we move into Bonfire Night to report them to us.”
