A thug who jumped on a woman’s car and damaged her windscreen before assaulting her has narrowly been spared from jail.

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on July 9 has Joshua Crompton, aged 28, of Meadow View, Worsbrough Common, Barnsley, admitted damaging the windscreen and assaulting the woman on Spring Street, Barnsley, on June 16.

Chantel Lowry-Green, prosecuting, said: “The complainant hears a loud bang outside her home address and sees where her motor vehicle is parked two males and a female and she doesn’t know them and goes to confront them.”

The complainant was concerned for her car windows, according to Ms Lowry-Green, and one of the males threw a 20p coin towards her and she threw it back at which point Crompton jumped on the car windscreen causing it to crack.

Ms Lowry-Green added the complainant tried to drag Crompton off the car and there was a scuffle and Crompton had his arm around the complainant’s neck.

Ms Lill also said Crompton who is in a relationship and due to be a father has been complying with the probation service and has a job at a factory.
