A teenager in Sheffield has been arrested in synchronised dawn raids carried out by officers investigating a drive-by shooting.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s ‘Xcalibre’ task force swooped in on three addresses in Rochdale and Middleton in the early hours of Wednesday, November 9. In the coordinated operation at 5.15am, officers also knocked in a door at an unspecified address in Sheffield.

As a result, four people – including a juvenile who was found at the Sheffield address – were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a firearm with the intent to endanger life.

The raids came after a teenage girl was seriously injured by a shotgun blast in a shooting at a house party on Quinney Crescent in Moss Side, Manchester, on July 29. In the incident, another girl was injured by what was believed to be shrapnel from the firearms blast. It is thought the two girls were not the intended targets of the alleged attack, but innocent bystanders.

Detective Superintendent David Meeney, from the City of Manchester Division, said: “This incident could have been far more serious. We do not believe that the two girls were the intended targets and were simply innocent bystanders, enjoying a party. This shows me that the people responsible are clearly dangerous as they have shown zero regard for who could have been injured that night."
