Cars were allegedly damaged with cricket bats during a fight between a group of people on a busy Sheffield road on Saturday night.

Police were called to Retford Road at 9:42pm last night (30 May) after a person reported a group of people “fighting on the road, causing damage to vehicles, believed to be owned by those involved,” a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.

One woman said the incident happened outside her house and she saw “cars getting smashed up with cricket bats” after a fight broke out between “loads” of women, whose boyfriends then got involved.

Another woman added: “Silly people could have killed someone with what I saw.” A video from the scene shows no fewer than six police cars on Retford Road.

It is not known if anyone was hurt.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Enquiries are on-going and anyone with information is asked to call incident number 1239 of 30 May 2020.”
