A school in Sheffield has warned parents about reports of men trying to lure children into vans.

King Edward VII School sent a message to parents on Friday, October 14, asking them to remind their children to stay safe in the wake of the recent reports. “Schools have been informed that there have been several separate reports recently of different people trying to lure children into their vans in the High Storrs area,” it said. “The latest incident involved two men in a grey van. The police service is aware of this and schools have been notified.”

Police in south-west Sheffield earlier this week revealed they were stepping up patrols in response to a number of reports in recent weeks about groups of men in cars approaching young people near several schools in the Ecclesall area of the city. “We are delivering extra patrols to provide reassurance, and have visited the schools which have raised concerns and provided advice to parents,” said officers. “We would encourage anyone who notices anything suspicious or has any concerns to get in touch, and report it to police so we can build up a full picture of what’s happening.”

The Star last month reported how schools including Notre Dame High School and High Storrs School had warned parents about two older men in a blue Ford car apparently approaching children on their way home. Police also confirmed last month that they were investigating reports a stranger had tried to lure a teenage girl into a car in Wincobank by telling her there were puppies inside.
