A famous Sheffield restaurant which was crowned Britain’s best takeaway has been put up for sale, with a hefty asking price.

Sakushi, on Campo Lane, behind Sheffield Cathedral in the city centre, was named the Best Takeaway in Britain at the Just Eat Restaurant Awards in 2021 – a title since secured by fellow Sheffield restaurant Munchies. Sakushi, which claims to be Sheffield’s first sushi belt restaurant, where diners can pick their meals from a conveyor belt, was founded in 2007.

It has also previously been named the city’s best Asian restaurant by Eat Sheffield and the best Japanese takeaway nationally by hungryhouse.co.uk.

Sakushi has gone on the market for £650,000, with the estate agents Hilton Smythe describing it as one of Sheffield’s longest running restaurants and among the best Asian fusion restaurants in the country, with its popularity within the city making it a Sheffield ‘institution’.

Fans needn’t worry as the sales blurb makes it clear there are no plans to close or to change the winning formula there, with the team already running the restaurant day to day set to remain in place under whoever the new owner turns out to be.

It states that the business has been put up for sale due to the owner’s ‘desire to pursue other business interests’ and comes with a ‘strong team in place’ and ‘little commitment’ needed from the owner.

“This makes it an excellent opportunity for an established operator looking for an additional site, or an individual/partnership looking for instant success,” the sales brochure continues.

“The new operator does not need to have any experience in Asian Fusion food, all training can be provided by the current staff.”

Sakushi has space for 50-plus diners and in 2021 generated a turnover of around £860,000, according to the sales brochure. The business is being sold on a leasehold basis, with a 10-year lease currently in place and an annual rent of £18,000. It previously went on the market in 2019 with a £295,000 price tag.

Famous customers at Sakushi have included the musician Corey Todd, frontman of the heavy metal band Slipknot, with the restaurant sharing a photo of him during his visit in 2020.
