It felt as though a weight had been lifted off the city’s collective shoulders, as non-essential shops, gyms, hairdressers, as well as the outdoor areas of pubs and restaurants, reopened to customers today.
For the first time in a long time, the city centre felt busy and people seemed genuinely delighted to be in the company of others again.

Hide AdAs I chatted to people in beer gardens, and bar staff getting back into the swing of things, it was clear today was a day that many had been waiting for.
Almost everyone I spoke to said the thing they had most been looking forward to was seeing other people.
It was so lovely to hear the familiar noise of a crowd of people talking, laughing and enjoying themselves again.
While we have some way to go before all Covid-19 restrictions are completely lifted – and none of us should become complacent about the dangers of the virus; this latest next stage of the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown has brought us a lot closer to a return to normality, and there was a real sense of optimism about.

Hide AdAs the saying goes, you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone, and I think it’s safe to say none of us will take the privilege of social contact for granted again.
