Sadness as another Sheffield pub falls victim to coronavirus pandemic

The Walkley Cottage said it would close in November after the impact of the virus made running the Bole Hill pub ‘no longer financially viable’, despite businesses being given the green light to reopen on July 4.
A spokesperson made the announcement ‘with great sadness’, adding: “This has been such a hard decision to make and has not been made lightly.

Regulars flocked to the pub’s Facebook page and left messages of support.
Issy Howe said it was a ‘massive loss’ for the area. "So sorry for you guys too, such fab hosts, you ran a smashing pub,” she added.
Rachel Smallwood posted: “So sorry to hear this guys, you made such a wonderful impression on the place.”

Hide AdLeyton Bracegirdle added: “Gutted about this. It was our favourite place to come for Sunday lunch for several years pre-lockdown.”
It comes after The Devonshire Cat on Wellington Street announced it would not reopen in June, describing the impact of Covid-19 as ‘devastating’.
Nearby live music venue and nightclub Corporation, based on Milton Street, warned more closures could be imminent unless Sheffield City Council take further action.
The Hillsborough Club on Bradfield Road closed permanently in April, warning that the ‘tsunami effect’ of the pandemic could wipe out many more small businesses across the city.
