John Lewis to start work on multi million pound store refit - weeks after announcing closure of iconic Sheffield shop

Following news that John Lewis would close its Sheffield city centre store due to the ‘irreversible impact’ of the pandemic, the brand has now announced a multi-million pound renovation of one of its stores in the capital.
John Lewis announced a final decision on the future of the Barker’s Pool in Sheffield store will be announced after a consultation in June.

Hide AdNow, the company will embark on a ‘multi-million pound renovation of its Peter Jones flagship on Sloane Square’ in London, the Evening Standard reported, with plans for a rooftop terrace garden outlined – something one shopper has said would be ‘wonderful’ on the iconic Sheffield store.
Alison Scalisi from Sheffield said: “Multi million pound renovation? £3 million to spend on the Sheffield store would also come into this category I feel.
“A rooftop terrace garden - imagine how wonderful that would be on the roof of the Sheffield store with its fabulous view over the city - from the heart of the city.”
In the article by the Evening Standard, Pippa Wicks, executive director, said: “We want to reinvigorate the shop as a public asset, loved by those who live next to it.”
This comes after it was announced 299 jobs would be put at risk in Sheffield due to the closure of the store that has been a stalwart in the city since the 1800s, in the form of Cole Brothers.
