With the likes of Sam Hutchinson, Steven Fletcher, Fernando Forestieri and others moving on once their contracts expire next week, Monk has outlined his plans for the future as he seeks a new dawn at Hillsborough with ‘younger, dynamic, hungrier players’.
Speaking to The Star in a press conference yesterday, Monk said, "I have spoken to the club… We’re trying to give them the knowledge of what type of profile, what type of player we’re looking at, what type of positions we’re looking at. We’ve been through all of that, and they’re working on that side of it. It's a little bit difficult in the sense that we don't know what next season is going to look like yet.

Nothing has been clarified on that but what we can do is try and pre-empt things and understand what we want to do from a financial point of view, and also in terms of what type of players we want here.
"I’ve said it all along, we need to move the squad into a more younger, dynamic quantity in the squad. That’s what we need, that’s how football is, and I think that’s how you can get the best out of a squad.
“You create value while bringing younger players, but you also need certain senior players in there to help guide those younger players, so we are trying to get that squad to that position, whether we can do that now or not.”
Fans that have been calling for fresh blood and younger legs will be pleased to hear his plans, and the Wednesday gaffer thinks that the club are on board with his plans to revitalise a squad that was amongst the oldest in the Championship this season.

“That brings harmony in the squad as well. Younger, dynamic, hungrier players with determination, that’s what we’re looking for, that’s the profile we’re looking for, and if we can start that process at least then surely that’s a positive.
“That’s what I’ve spoken to the club about, I think they’re in agreement with that because you’ve seen the situation with players leaving, and that’s what we have to do. We accept that, and we try and move forward.”
Wednesday face Bristol City tomorrow in the second game since the restart of football, and will be eager to pick up three points to add to the one they picked up after their 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.
