After a season which promised so much fizzled out, many Sheffield Wednesday fans will have welcomed the full-time whistle on Wednesday to finally bring an end to the 2019/20 campaign. On Christmas Day the Owls sat third but finished 16th.
Garry Monk’s men will now have to regroup with the start of the forthcoming season not that far away. It will be the club’s 21st outside of the English top-flight. Remarkably, during that time the average attendance has dropped below 20,000 just once. The club can look reluctantly towards Leeds United for inspiration that a return can happen.
