Sheffield Wednesday interim manager, Neil Thompson, expected back for Everton FA Cup clash

‘Thommo’ took over the role as interim manager at the club after Dejphon Chansiri made the decision to fire Tony Pulis last year, and currently has a 100% win record since doing so.
Unfortunately, though, the long-serving Thompson had to miss the 2-0 win over Exeter City in the FA Cup after testing positive for COVID-19, and Wednesday sat out this weekend’s round of Championship fixtures following the COVID-19 outbreak at the club.

Wednesday will have been watching yesterday’s Championship results with interest as they continue to get the COVID-19 situation at the club under control, with the postponement meaning that they didn’t have chance to consolidate their place outside of the relegation zone.
Wednesday vacated the bottom three for the first time this season on New Year’s Day after a win over Derby County, but haven’t played a league game since then.
With that in mind, it was entirely possible that Thompson’s side slipped back into the relegation zone this weekend – Derby needed just a draw to leapfrog them and make it so. Rotherham, however, had other plans.
