“I hope that’s with Wednesday…” - Sheffield Wednesday youngster, Declan Thompson, talks about his aims for a new contract

The 18-year-old made his Owls debut over the weekend, coming on as a late substitute against Exeter City to write the next paragraph in a remarkable story that has seen him come from being bound to a wheelchair to making his first appearance as a professional footballer.
Thompson, who was diagnosed with Perthes disease as a youngster, was told that he may never play football again, but has now gone viral across the world thanks to a video of his dad, Lee, celebrating his maiden appearance.

Hide AdIt’s just one game though, and Thompson is well aware of the fact that his Owls contract will expire at the end of the current campaign – and the lifelong Wednesdayite wants his story at Hillsborough to continue.
While he spoke of hoping for a new a deal, Thompson also says that he wants to take steps towards becoming a first team regular, telling The Star, “I just want to focus on playing football and enjoying it really… I hope that’s with Wednesday, and I really want to kick on and become a household name in every Wednesday fans’ house.”
It remains to be seen whether Thompson, one of three debutants in the 2-0 win over Exeter City, will feature once more against Coventry City this weekend, but he’ll be keen to kick on at the club now he’s taken his latest step into senior football.
