After more than one person who made the trip to Exeter was unable to take part, Wednesday were left with just four substitutes, while sports scientist, Jeremy Poulson, had to take the goalkeepers for their pre-match warm ups.
The Star understands that those who were unable to feature at St James Park either tested positive or are isolating after coming into contact with somebody who tested positive, with the next few days set to give a better indication of whether the situation is improving.

Hide AdWednesday’s players and staff will all be tested twice next week ahead of this weekend’s game against Coventry City, and will be hoping that they acquire enough negative tests to put a team together to face the Sky Blues on Saturday.
The club have been following all the guidelines in order to try and make sure they get the outbreak under control, however only time will tell whether they’ve had enough recoveries and negative tests to put a team together at St. Andrews.
A number of games across the English Football League have been postponed recently given similar situations across the divisions, but the Owls will be eager to avoid that eventuality and keep up the positive momentum that they’ve managed to build over the festive period.
Meanwhile, a decision on when/whether to reopen the club’s Middlewood Road training ground will be made in the coming days, with players training from home until then.
