Hide AdTom Ashford, aged 37, is an independent visitor and has been volunteering for over a year.
He said that the experience has been very beneficial for not only the youngsters he has spent time with, but also himself.
He said: “I decided to become an independent visitor after hearing about the scheme through a friend.
“Positive, consistent role models are so important for young people and it’s something most of us take for granted.

He also added that he would encourage other people to become independent visitors too.
“I would strongly encourage anyone with an interest in sharing some positive experiences with a young person to volunteer.
