M1 near Sheffield reopens after air ambulance lands following serious collision

The motorway had been closed in both directions between junctions 30, for Barlborough, and 31.
Highways England said shortly before 5.30pm that the road was closed due to a ‘serious collision’, with police, firefighters and paramedics all at the scene, where Yorkshire Air Ambulance landed.

Hide AdHighways England announced at around 5.40pm that traffic was being released southbound but the northbound carriageway remained closed.
Shortly before 7.30pm it said the road was reopening fully, though motorists were warned to expect long delays with tailbacks stretching for 3.5 miles at one point.
South Yorkshire Police said it was called at 4.43pm to reports of a collision between an HGV and a grey BMW estate car in lane one of the carriageway.
A spokeswoman for the force said one man had been airlifted to hospital following the crash with injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening.
