Students sample life as Sheffield legal eagles
National law firm Irwin Mitchell welcomed five students from Thomas Rotherham College for work experience over the summer, as part of social mobility programme, PRIME.
All the 16 to 18 year olds, Georgia Gould, Victoria Peters, Paige Yellott, Charlotte Broadhurst and Jake Vickers, worked to a timetable so that they could experience as many aspects of law and as much of the day-to-day running of the firm, as possible.

Irwin Mitchell has offered talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds the vital work experience for the past three years.
This year the students, most of whom are studying for A-levels, worked in different departments including medical negligence, serious injury, workplace injury, commercial litigation, insolvency, real estate, contentious probate, legal helpline and IT.
At the end of the week, the students delivered presentations on their week at IM. Their feedback was very positive.

Charlotte Civico said: “In the past it was very much a case of ‘who you know’ in terms of getting good quality work experience in the legal sector. All students should be entitled to experience. It means in the future the mix of legal professionals will become more inclusive and diverse.”
