Sheffield Barnsley police incident: A616 closed after ‘severe’ multi vehicle crash near Tankersley
and live on Freeview channel 276
South Yorkshire Police were sent to the scene after the crash, on the A616, just north of High Green, near the ‘McDonalds’ roundabout, say National Highways, after the incident. Disruption was expected to last into the early hours.
However, National Highways have stated in the last few minutes that the road has now re-opened, around four hours after the crash.

Hide AdA National Highways statement said after the incident, at 5.15pm: “Traffic is being held on the A616 westbound between M1 and A61 (Tankersley) due to a collision involving at least three vehicles.” They described the incident as ‘severe’
National Highways said at that 8.30pm they expected disruption to continue until nearly 1am, and that traffic was being diverted locally at the scene.
But at 9.13pm, they said: “Recovery and collision clear-up work complete and the A616 is OPEN westbound between the A61 (Tankersley) and A629 (Wortley).”
