So far, nearly 30 objections have been submitted to Sheffield Council – which will decide whether or not it should go ahead – and there are three comments of support.

Many also raised concerns about the impacts on health but Hutchinson included an explainer in its application that said: “It remains the opinion of International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection, and other bodies such as the World Health Organisation, that there is no convincing evidence of adverse health effects at exposure below the guideline levels.”
Hutchinson confirmed in its application that the phone mast was designed to be in full compliance with the guidelines.
One resident, who lives on the nearby Greaves Close, said: “My property overlooks Scarlett Oak Meadow. Installing such a high pole at the end of the road would be a great eyesore, and would ruin an otherwise uninterrupted view of the Loxley valley for numerous households.”

They added: “In this area I expected Labour and, especially the Green Party, to be against large corporate bodies railroading over the interests of Sheffield citizens. This is obviously not the case in the sitting of the 5G mast proposed for Acorn Drive.”
Those who submitted comments in support said they welcome any improvement to mobile coverage.
On supporter, who lives on Robin Hood Chase, said: “I am in full support of the proposed 5G mast with accompanying cabinets. We here in Stannington have had poor phone signal for far too long.”
