Hide AdCouncil officers presented an update on the city’s preparedness for this during the meeting, and Catherine Pritchard, policy and improvement officer, confirmed the amount.
James Henderson, director of policy, performance and communications, added: “We are not talking huge amounts of money for this it has to be said at a local or regional level. So it’s a question of directing that in the most appropriate way. We have been quite prudent in the way we have used that money, we have got quite a lot left over because we didn’t know what the eventual outcome was going to be and we wanted to be able to provide support for businesses after the first of January and potentially other support as well such as food banks, or supplies for vulnerable people.”
The government says businesses and citizens need to act now if importing goods from the EU, exporting goods to the EU, moving goods to or from Northern Ireland, travelling to the EU, living and working in the EU or staying in the UK as an EU citizen.
