Residents could be welcomed into new homes at popular Sheffield shopping precinct if plans are approved

London & Associated Properties submitted proposals to convert the first floor units 19 and 20 of Orchard Square - which are both currently vacant - and an area above those currently occupied by the shopping centre’s management into eight new apartments.
The centre management team would be relocated above on the balcony unit.

Hide AdIn a statement SEAM Architects, on behalf of the applicant, said: “The proposed inclusion of residential uses within the square will contribute to the long term growth, management and adaption of the shopping centre, ensuring that it remains diverse and vibrant.
“Given that the ancillary spaces above the ground floor retail space will likely remain vacant for the foreseeable future (as demand for this size of retail space diminishes), re- appropriating these for residential use will ensure the centre continues to thrive without creating conflict between users and impacting on the street scene.
“The proposed alterations are sympathetic to the original building and therefore contribute to the character and appearance of the conservation area. We therefore request the local authority’s support in determining this application.”
The proposed new homes would be a mix of one and two bed apartments.
