Plans to open up more parking spaces in town
The move comes after the authority carried out a study which revealed many of the parking spaces in the town that could be used by shoppers were instead being taken up for large parts of the day by shop owners and staff.
Councillors at this month’s town council meeting at the Pavilion, on Tithes Lane, were told the authority had carried out detailed studies and analysis into the use of the car parking places available in the town in the south of the borough.

“The net conclusion is that parking spaces that could be used by clients of businesses and shoppers which would increase the prosperity of the town are being used for half and full days by the owners or employees of the said businesses and shops.
The document added: “The council has developed a series of strategies that are designed to reverse this situation and full consultation with all the business and retailers will take place over the next few weeks.”
The Town Council is scheduled to meet again later this month.
