Sheffield sister pub issues update on its future after Devonshire Cat’s closure

Yesterday the Abbeydale Brewery announced with ‘great sadness’ that its iconic pub, The Devonshire Cat on Wellington Street, would not return after lockdown due to a reduction in footfall.
Regulars in their hundreds expressed dismay and ‘heartbreak’ at the permanent closure of the pub, which opened its doors in 2001.

Hide AdThe beer company said it would be concentrating on its other pub, The Rising Sun at Nether Green, from now on.
The Rising Sun has paid tribute to its sister pub on Facebook: “We’re devastated that our city centre venue, the Devonshire Cat, will not be re-opening.
“We will really miss it, and would like to extend a very warm welcome to all of their regulars in the future.”
A spokesperson for the Abbeydale Brewery said: ““This incredibly difficult decision is one we need to take to give both the brewery business and The Rising Sun the best chance of ensuring survival in these unprecedented times.
