Sheffield Cathedral to live stream Blitz commemoration service for 80th anniversary
and live on Freeview channel 276
The clergy will be joined by civic leaders and Neil Anderson, author of ‘Sheffield’s Date with Hitler’.
The service will not be open to the public but those wishing to participate can do so via the Cathedral’s YouTube and Facebook pages.

Hide AdCanon Geoffrey Harbord, Acting Dean of Sheffield Cathedral, said: “Throughout its history, Sheffield Cathedral has been the place where the people of the city have commemorated significant moments in its life and story.
“The Cathedral is proud to hold a service attended by the Lord Lieutenant, Lord Mayor and other civic leaders for the 80th anniversary of the Blitz.
"As we recall the terrible events of those two nights, we will reflect on the immense destruction wrought by war and will pray that all peoples will continually work for lasting peace in the world.”
The Blitz affected many individuals and families in Sheffield, some of whom were only young children at the time, so it is both a difficult but important occasion for those commemorating this year’s anniversary.

Hide AdThose who attend the service in person will have the opportunity to light a candle as part of the Act of Remembrance.
Under current coronavirus guidelines, the Cathedral is only open for private prayer and acts of public worship.
The Sheffield Blitz Service will take place on December 13, at 7pm to 8pm.
