Heeley vicar appeals for donations to Gleadless Foodbank after surge in demand

Bob Evans, vicar at Heeley Parish Church, praised everyone who had already donated and urged others to help out.
The church on Gleadless Road is one of the designated collection points for members of the community to donate items for the foodbank. The collection point is situated at the main door of the church and is checked on a regular basis.

Hide AdMr Evans said the foodbank had experienced an upturn in demand due to coronavirus.
"It is incredible how generous certain people in the community are," he said. "People have brought what they can but please keep the donations coming."
Usually the foodbank prefers non-perishable goods however at this time more varied items are being donated and accepted including bread, cake, pet food, hand wash and even children’s underwear. Perishable goods need to have out of date life of 10 days or more.
The food bank is based at Gleadless Valley Methodist Church on Blackstock Road, which is also a collection point for donations.
