“I doubt they will ever get my vote again”

I cannot agree with Steven Smith (letters, February 27), that Keir Starmer would be a good leader for the Labour party.
Starmer told the country a week ago, and reiterated it on the Robert Peston tv show, that if he has his way we would be back to almost free migration into our country, and that immigrants should be allowed to bring in their once removed families. That means maybe old parents or cousins, uncles and aunts would flow into the UK.

Hide AdThe country, as everyone knows, is under pressure on housing, jobs, schools and poor wages that will remain low while ever there are more people chasing jobs, than there are jobs.
We are going into a future where less people will be required, as robotics are quickly taking over.
It’s been going on for years, that’s how we lost conductors on buses, because a machine was invented that meant the driver didn’t need a conductor, he could do the job himself.
We are losing jobs in supermarkets because of automatic cash desks, banks can now take your money through a machine in the bank so less counter staff are shown.

You don’t have a ticket desk in most cinemas because you put your money in a machine, train conductors will go the same way as bus conductors. In a decade we may have driverless buses.
If Starmer were to introduce bringing in extra family members to people already here, what if they are older people and become ill, are we going to turn them away from the hospitals? Of course not, but they could be getting expensive treatment while not having paid a penny into the system. That cannot be right.
I understand that Starmer is a wealthy man so I look forward to seeing him funding the houses required for immigrants, setting up businesses for them to work in, and paying for their health care that they might not of contributed a penny to.

As a Labour voter for over 50 years, controlling our boarders was the reason I stopped voting Labour.
I doubt they will ever get my vote again, if that’s their vision of a country overwhelmed today that we can’t control tomorrow.
