During the raid he removed two rings from his victim’s fingers, ‘whilst she lay terrified in her bed’.
Detective Constable Dean Craik said: “To break into someone’s home is one thing, but to physically take the rings from the fingers of an elderly woman, who was sleeping in her bed, is beyond comprehension.“I personally have struggled to understand how someone could do this and I know this lady’s family have found it extremely difficult to come to terms with. Despite this, they have remained dignified throughout this process and I would like to thank them for their support and patience.”Daniels also pleaded guilty to a second burglary, where his victim was a man his 90s with severe mobility issues. He threatened him with a hammer while he ransacked the property in Beauchief.DC Craik added: “In this case, Daniels threatened his victim with a hammer, intent on taking this man’s savings and jewellery. It was a harrowing incident, where a bed-bound man was told to stay quiet, whilst Daniels ransacked the property. Thankfully our officers disturbed him and he was arrested at the address in Beauchief.”During searches of Daniels’ home following his arrest, officers discovered a Taser torch, which is a prohibited weapon, as well as evidence linking him to the offences - including photos from the elderly woman’s wedding day.DC Craik added: “I cannot stress enough how despicable this man’s actions have been; he has terrorised innocent, elderly people and left families utterly heartbroken.“Daniels is a dangerous man who is now off the streets, which I know his victims are thoroughly relieved about, as are their loved ones.“For the wider public, this case hopefully demonstrates our commitment to tackling burglaries across Sheffield and how we are working hard to bring dangerous offenders before the courts.”
