Major Doncaster road at centre of long running bridge saga finally re-opens
and live on Freeview channel 276
Thorne Road has been closed near to Clay Lane on and off for more than a year after engineering problems caused a number of delays in replacing a bridge over the carriageway.
While the bridge has still to be replaced, the road opened again yesterday – but drivers have been told there will be more night time closures to endure over the coming weeks.

The works have been taking place on the stretch between Shaw Lane roundabout and the roundabout for the West Moor Link Road near Sainsbury’s at Edenthorpe.
The work is to replace the existing bridge and improve journey times from the West Moor Link into Doncaster.
The piling work has now been completed, but there will be 25 night time closures from 10pm - 6am (Monday to Friday).

These closures are to allow the safe construction of the south abutment walls and associated works.
Sainsbury’s will be open during the works as will access. Diversion routes to guide people around the works will be in place and pedestrian access will be maintained under the bridge.
A council spokesman said: “We know it’s frustrating. Please bear with us, it will be a big improvement once complete.”
