Members of the public were concerned to see the fish floating in a pool in Weston Park over the weekend.
Though one resident remarked it appeared as if some of the fish had been ‘gutted’ and scattered around the pond, Sheffield City Council confirmed that the gruesome incident was not being treated as foul play.

Hide AdThe authority has been at the park removing a number of dead fish found in recent days and claims to have got to the bottom of the deaths.
Mary Lea, cabinet member for Culture, Parks and Leisure at Sheffield City Council, said: “It is very shocking that dead fish have been found at Weston Park Lake and must have been deeply distressing for the general public to see this.
“We can confirm that this unfortunate incident is in fact a naturally occurring phenomenon which happens when the fish stock exceeds the capacity the water can support at any one time.
“We are currently working with the Environment Agency who are happy with our current actions while looking at further measures to prevent this happening again.”
