Thug who attacked partner in Sheffield and threatened to kill her given custodial sentence

Tomas Dunka, aged 22, of Popple Street, Grimesthorpe, Sheffield, punched his partner and dragged her into their home on August 24 and later made a threat to kill her, according to a Sheffield Crown Court hearing.
Prosecuting barrister Ian West told the hearing on November 23 Dunka’s partner had described the defendant as “chronically jealous”.

Hide AdHe added Dunka’s partner had been walking to a pharmacy with their two children when the defendant saw her and shouted abuse.
Mr West said: “As she was leaving the house, this defendant saw her and started shouting abuse across the street at her.”
He added: “Despite the fact she was holding the younger child in her arms this defendant punched her to the face and head.”
Mr West said Dunka then grabbed hold of his partner’s hair and dragged her back into the house.

Hide AdFollowing his arrest, Dunka made a comment to a police officer about threatening to kill his partner as he was brought out of a cell.
Mr West said the defendant told the police officer: “I will go home and kill her. I don’t care. I’m young bruv. You get me?”
Dunka also told police that because they were Slovakian it was okay to behave in this manner.
The defendant, who has two previous convictions, pleaded guilty to committing assault occasioning actual bodily harm and he admitted making a threat to kill.

Hide AdJoy Merriam, defending, said the defendant’s partner had submitted a retraction statement and she does not support the prosecution’s case.
Ms Merriam added Dunka, who has already served about three months remanded in custody, has difficulties controlling his emotions.
Recorder Michael Fanning told Dunka: “You were seen to punch your victim to the face and pull her into the house by her hair.”
He sentenced Dunka to six-months of custody which means he is expected to be released shortly on licence having already served half of that time on remand.
Dunka was also ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge.
