Corbett armed himself with a piece of wood from his vehicle, hit the man twice over the head causing "nasty injuries", and the pair ended up grappling on the floor.
Joy Merriam, mitigating, said Corbett, 47, of Kilnhurst Road, Rawmarsh, pleaded guilty to affray at an early stage.
She said he agreed to pay prosecution costs, and the court heard the other man was "not entirely blameless."

"At 47 to be up before a crown court is shameful. The less said about this deplorable episode, the better."
He gave Corbett six months in prison, but suspended the sentence for 12 months, and ordered him to pay £500 towards court costs.
