South Yorkshire arsonist awaits sentence after torching her former flat

Joy Harrison, aged 58, set fire to her ground-floor flat on Belmont Avenue, Barnsley, according to a Sheffield Crown Court hearing.
Beverley Wright, prosecuting, told a previous hearing Harrison had contacted the fire service and shortly afterwards the flat was found ablaze on April 4, 2019.

Hide AdHarrison, now of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to committing arson recklessly as to whether life would be endangered.
The court previously heard Harrison was rescued by the fire service who extinguished the blaze.
Richard Davies, defending, told a previous hearing the offence had been a “cry for help”.
The case had been listed for sentencing today, Thursday, April 23, but was further adjourned until April 29 to allow the defendant to further discuss further conerns with her barrister.
Mr Davies said Harrison ,who has had alcohol problems, has already spent six months in custody on remand.
