Shocking video captures man brandishing crossbow in Barnsley town centre

They were taken from a video filmed by Euan Moxon as the terrifying scenes unfolded on Peel Street during the early hours of this morning, Sunday, May 9.
Mr Moxon kept recording even as the weapon was turned on him at one stage by the man, who could be heard at one point shouting ‘I hope you ******* die’.

Hide AdBut asked whether he had been scared at the time, he responded: “Nah a thought he was messing about tbf ahaha but bobbies locked street down n that.”
Police were called at 1.29am and unarmed officers who were on patrol bravely approached the man using their shields to protect members of the public, causing him to drop the weapon.
He ran off, climbing onto a bridge on West Way, but was swiftly detained and brought to safety.
Police said a 31-year old man from Barnsley had been arrested on suspicion of Section 3 Public Order Act Affray and remained in police custody this morning.

Hide AdThe Star has chosen not to share the video in full at this stage as police initially said the man had been detained under the Mental Health Act.
Superintendent Paul McCurry praised the actions of those responding to the incident.
He said: “Our officers showed their absolute commitment to public safety this morning, they responded very quickly with limited protection to safely resolve the incident.”
