Sheffield teens as young as 14 arrested in crackdown on car thefts

The eight teens were arrested in a series of raids at 10 addresses in Parson Cross yesterdaym, Thursday, September 3.
Officers from Operation Furnace – Sheffield’s dedicated burglary team – were among those involved in the arrests.

Hide AdThe teenagers were quizzed over the theft of cars using keys taken during house burglaries.
Detective Sergeant Lee Corker, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “The operation focused on tackling a group of individuals suspected of being involved in a conspiracy to commit burglaries in Sheffield, namely stealing high value cars with keys stolen from inside residential properties.
“As part of our work to disrupt this activity, we carried out simultaneous search warrants at a number of addresses and made a significant number of arrests.”
All eight teenagers were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to burgle, burglary and other related offences.

Hide AdFour were charged in the early hours of this morning with offences including burglary, theft of motor vehicles and dangerous driving.
One of them, aged 17, was charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs.
Two were remanded into custody.
The operation was mounted following burglaries across the city, including Shiregreen, Parson Cross, Broomhill, Crookes and Fulwood.
DS Corker added: “Burglary has a profound impact on victims - we know that - and we’re committed to finding those who are responsible for such crimes."
