Hide AdThe force said: “There will be an increased police presence in the Batemoor area of Sheffield today following reports of shots fired in the early hours of this morning.
“Police were called at 1.34am after members of the public reported hearing shots fired outside a block of flats in Batemoor Road.
“Officers remain at the scene and an investigation is ongoing.”
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Murphy, from the Armed Crime Team, said: “Incidents involving firearms are always deeply concerning, and we will continue to do all we can to keep illegal weapons off the streets of South Yorkshire.

Hide Ad“I would like to reassure everyone that we do not believe there to be any ongoing risk to the wider public.
“Please don't be alarmed if you see an enhanced policing presence in the area today. Officers will be conducting house-to-house enquiries and a cordon remains in place at the scene.
“Extra uniformed officers will continue their patrols throughout the weekend and I would invite anyone with concerns to speak to them, as they are there to support you.
“If you have any information which could assist either investigation, I urge you to report this either by speaking to an officer.”
