High-speed police chase through Rotherham ends with drug dealer's arrest

Christoper Cox failed to stop for police when he was spotted dangerously overtaking other cars on Upper Wortley Road, heading towards Rotherham, in the early hours of Friday, December 20 last year.
He reached speeds of up to 90mph during the chase which ensued and twice reversed into the police car pursuing him before attempting unsuccessfully to flee on foot.

Hide AdPC Wes Turner, the traffic officer involved in the pursuit, said: “I requested the driver to pull over for a chat, but Cox failed to do so and a pursuit commenced.
“Cox reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour, driving dangerously in residential areas while attempting to evade police.
“During the pursuit, Cox stopped his car twice and reversed into my unmarked police car, causing significant damage.
“When Cox eventually stopped, he attempted to escape on foot.

Hide Ad“He was arrested and after a search of the car it was clear he had attempted to evade police due to him having drugs, cash and weapons.”
Cox, 44, of Masbrough Street, Rotherham, was charged with various offences including dangerous driving, driving without insurance and licence, possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
He appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday, February 10, where he was sentenced to four years in prison and disqualified from driving for five years.
