Crack cocaine and heroin dealer jailed after being snared by South Yorkshire Police

Darren Bygrave, aged 49, of Monk Bretton, was sentenced to four years and one month after being charged with possessing Class A and Class B drugs with intent to supply.
The dealer was arrested by South Yorkshire Police in both 2018 and 2019 and Sheffield Crown Court heard how he had previously smuggled sedative drugs to an inmate in HMP New Hall in Wakefield while on a visit to the jail.

Hide AdHe was later charged with the smuggling offence and released on police bail but continued to deal drugs across Barnsley.
Sergeant Stephen Newton, who led the police investigation into Bygrave’s activities, said; “On Monday, October 8, 2018, officers were on patrol at Pitt Street and observed Bygrave driving a Fiat Punto.
“Bygrave pulled up at the roadside and officers approached the vehicle. As Bygrave spotted officers, he was seen to attempt to hide bags of white powder down the driver’s car seat.
“Officers arrested Bygrave and recovered 10 bags of drugs and a mobile phone from the car.”

Hide AdFollowing his arrest, Bygrave was released under investigation while forensic work took place.
Continuing to offend, Bygrave was again stopped on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 on Laithes Lane, Athersley, this time in a Ford Mondeo.
Sgt Newton said: “When Bygrave was stopped for a second time, he stated to officers he was in possession of drugs.
“After a quick search, we found a yellow plastic egg that contained 44 wraps of crack cocaine, three wraps of heroin.

Hide Ad“His mobile phone yet again showed evidence of offering to supply drugs.”
He added “We will not tolerate drug dealing on our streets and will take firm action to apprehend those involved in drug-related crime.“I am pleased Bygrave is off the streets of Barnsley.”
Bygrave is said to have supplied drugs across South and West Yorkshire.
