A teenage killer is due to be sentenced today over a fatal stabbing on a Sheffield estate.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legals reasons, was found guilty of killing dad Anthony Sumner, 42, who was stabbed to death and attacked with a machete.

Prosecuting barrister Michelle Colborne QC said the youth was involved in an attack carried out in retribution over some criminal damage Mr Sumner was blamed for.

Ms Colborne said: “Anthony Sumner was defenceless when he was chased and cornered in a garden.”

The teenage attacker is said to have jabbed at Mr Sumner’s chest area with the blade he was carrying.

Mr Sumner stumbled into the street and collapsed in front of neighbours and friends.

In tributes paid after his death, Mr Sumner was described as as a ‘loved’ son, brother, dad, grandad and grandson.

A note on flowers laid at the crime scene said he would “always be loved and missed”.
